Our monthly focus in April

Every month we set a monthly focus for the next 30 days. A focus that comes with an intention we can all keep in mind and develop in our very own way. For this month we choose SELF-LOVE. We think it is important to remember that showing love to yourself is something that empowers us and is a key komponent of showing love to others. Self-love helps us take care of ourselves, lower stress levels and will bring more light, love and balance into our lives.

We spoke to Caroline, the designer behind our niné styles and the creative director at nous trois about how she is practicing self-love and what it means to hear.

What comes to your mind when you hear the word self-love?

I think of the way I treat my self, the way I think about my self and the way I take care of my own needs before I take care of anyone else. I also think about the way I listen to my body and it's signals. It is a vulnerable topic for me, since I struggled with this in my younger days, but I also think that all the challenges let me where I am today. I have gained a lot of knowledge about my needs and my body that makes it a lot easier for me.

How to you practise self-love in your everyday life?

I do small self-loving rituals everyday. When I thought about this questions it came clear to me, that I actually have created a lot of lovely habits, that I do without even thinking about doing them. I think that loving ourselves is also teaching us to feel what is going on inside and act accordingly. Some days I feel the energy bubble inside and all I want to is to let it out somehow. It can be for a long run, for a social dinner with my friends or even a dance at a club with a glass of champagne. Other days I feel more introverted and drained of energy and on days like I mostly wanna be in my own company, do small and simple things that I like. These days can somestimes still be a hard to accept for me, especially if I planned something specific for that day, but it is on those days we need our love the most.

Can you mention some of your self-loving rituals?

Every morning I start out my day with a shot of aloe vera, that soothes my digestive system before I eat my breakfast. I am usually also having a cup of hot lemon, ginger and mint water in the morning. Beyond this I am on my morning walk with Alvin - normally around 7.30am. I love to get out early and the sunlight exposure is a important component on our circadian rhythm. Both meditation and journaling has also been a part of my routines for a long while, and the way I learned to connect with my soul and my feelings makes me calm inside and is one of the most important things I learned for showing up my self.

Since my meals is very important for me and I love making food I also use a lot of time creating and preparing my meals for the week. I love to do some oven roasted potatoes and vegtabels for lunch and dinner and then I am having a green smoothie with different greens and fruits almost everday. It is one of my favorite things of the day, and I really feel how it fills me up with vitamins and energy for the day.  As
I mentioned it really depends on my mood and the day, but most importantly I tend to be gentle and curious about the way I feel - no matter what.

Who or what inspires you keep up with the self-love?

My family and close friends inspires me to choose myself first. I feel the way I can be who I am how I can bring out love and light to everyone and everything around me, when prioritizing to fill my self up with all that need. My mom, Birgitte, has always been teaching my sister, Emilie, and I how should never forget loving ourselves and I feel grateful for that.

Thank you for taking the time to read our journal.
